Serving on Behalf of All
in the Texas Rio Grande Valley Borderlands

St. George's Orthodox Church is located in Hidalgo County on the South Texas border and is a Bridge with Mexico in the lower Rio Grande Valley. The Parish was planted in this region by Christ our Lord, under the auspices of DMITRI, Archbishop of Dallas and the South of the Orthodox Church in America. St. George's was founded over 30 years ago. The Church is made up of a diversity of people from various ethnic and national backgrounds, including many who speak Spanish. Although relatively small in our local numbers, because of St. George's strategic location, we have the great honor, opportunity and responsibility to serve Christ by reaching out to our neighbors - both here in South Texas and across the border bridges in Mexico. Guests and visitors - especially children - are always welcomed at St. George's! A link to our Service Schedule and Driving Directions to the Church are found on this site and at www.stgeorgetx.org. In Christ and through His Holy Church, we at St. George's seek to teach, to serve, to share and to help support the vital work of the Church in this region, "on behalf of all and for all" Orthodox Christians.

Because Hidalgo County is one of the most financially-challenged in the entire USA, we began helping our neighbors by creating "St. George's Food Pantry" in early 2004. Since that time, the Food Pantry has rapidly grown and now provides food for over 150 families each time it is open for service. St. George Food Pantry is always in need of financial support! Please consider sharing a one time or monthly contribution. Orthodox Rio Bridges (ORB), in Spanish, Puentes del Rio Ortodoxo (PRO) - PRO-ORB - was created rather recently. It is an effort to reach across the US/Mexican border bridges with both service and fellowship opportunities - most especially focused for youth, college students, young adults and senior retiree participation.

Other outreach ministries have long been part of the Parish as well, including deliveries and assistance offered to the Casa Amparo Orphanage for girls in Reynosa, Mexico. Many new ones are in early stages of development. For a number of years, Fr. Antonio Perdomo, Pastor of St. George's, has hosted a Spanish-language internet forum called Hisporto. We are working on encouraging and making easily accessible and available translations of Spanish- language Orthodox Liturgical Translations, Educational Materials, and developing a list of Spanish-speaking Clergy and Monastics for others to use as helpful resources.

We are constanting researching and adding to an on-going listing of Spanish-language Orthodox Weblinks, as well as providing Learning Links: To help you Learn Spanish; to learn more about Hispanic America; to learn about our nearest Border Neigthbor - Mexico - and about the Orthodox Church found there; and to learn how you can help by sharing Icons and Liturgical Supplies or helping to Translate Orthodox services, music and articles into Spanish. In addition, Fr. Antonio has been asked to help create an Orthodox Mission in Monterrey, Mexico.
.
We at St. George's are especially interested in finding ways to include Orthodox Youth, Young Adults and College Students - on both sides of the Border Bridges - as well as Senior Retirees and families in all of these as well as other service and educational opportunities. If you might be interested in joining us for the winter, for an internship or forever, we're glad to help in this transition! Our local Chambers of Commerce have much to share, as well.

We invite you - as Individuals, Families, Parishes or Organizations - to join our efforts by Praying for us, by Learning more about these Ministries and by Becoming our Supporting Patrons, Partners and Friends in one-time or regular sharing through Almsgiving. Ask us how your Parish can become a Parish Partner in these various ministries.

See the Parish website at: www.stgeorgetx.org/

On Behalf Of All & For All: Our deepest thanks to the helpful and professional staff at Orthodox Internet Services and Orthodox Web Solutions for helping make a reality our long-time prayer, hope and vision for publicizing the outreach ministries and Spanish-language resources shared within this easy to create site. Please see their web links below. God grant you many years!

¡Gloria a Dios por todo!
