International Festival & Open House

Saturday, December 12th, 2009 - 9 AM - 4 PM ~ Festival Day!

and Sunday, December 13th, 2009 - 12 PM - 2 PM (we will only be selling leftover baked goods on Sunday)

Saturday Festival Activities Include:

  * Eastern European Christmas Carols performed by St. George's Choir

  * Children's Activities and Story Tellers with special crafts and stories for the Nativity Season.

  * Church Tours & Orthodox Information, throughout the day.

  * International Foods and Baked Goods for sale including our famous Baklava, Greek, Middle Eastern, Eastern European and Latin American Holiday fare

  * Greek Souvlaki & Other Grilled Meats - to eat on site or take home

 * Russian Tea Shoppe, with Russian Tea, Greek Coffee and International Baked Goods.

  * International Soups and Breads - for sale on site or to take home.

  * International Specialty Foods - To eat on site or take home & enjoy!

  * Special Order Baklava & International Baked Items, for your holiday parties! Homemadae Baklava and more!  Call ahead to order at: 956-781-6114.

  * Christmas Gift Items, including arts and crafts from Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Poland and Eastern Europe, such as icons, matroishka dolls, psyanki and more..

 * St. George's Handcrafted Soap - a handcrafted, homemade olive oil and herbal based soap especially made by St. George's parishioners.

  * St. George's Book & Gift Store - crafts, embroideries, gifts, greeting cards, icons, beeswax candles, books and more...

  * Art & Craft Vendors - Specialty items and gifts for sale throughout the day.

  * St. George's Foodpantry Annual Fundraising Event: "Give a Can; Get a Cookie" - Bring canned goods and staple food items or your donation of financial support to help the important work of St. George's Food Pantry which feeds the hungry in our Pharr neighborhood! This year, we are also collecting new and lightly-used blankets for our special Nativity season distribution.

 St. George’s Orthodox Christian Church cordially invites you to attend our upcoming Annual Holiday Open House & International Bake Fest, to be held on Saturday, December 12th, 2009 from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Church’s Parish Hall located at 704 W. Sam Houston Street in Pharr, Texas. The Bake Fest will again be open briefly from noon until 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 13th, for the sale of any left over baked goods and craft items only.

 Come and experience a taste of Eastern European and Mediterranean hospitality and holiday flavors. The Open House will feature St. George’s famous diversity of international baked goods, as well as Greek coffee and Russian Tea Shoppe.  The “Give a Can; Get a Cookie” will again help collect canned goods and financial contributions for St. George’s Food Pantry feed the hungry campaign. Throughout the day, Eastern European Christmas Carols will be sung by the church choir. Children's Holiday Activities will also be available throughout the day. Church Tours and talks about the ancient Orthodox Christian faith will be offered to those who are interested.

 This will be a festive time for getting to know and visiting with neighbors, friends and guests of St. George’s.  We will be selling Baklava, International Baked Goods and Ethnic Foods. The Parish also offers its wonderful homemade, olive-oil based Saint George Soap, as well as find handcrafts and folk art from the Ukraine, Russia, Greece and Poland. St. George’s Bookstore & Gift Shop will be open for the day, with holiday cards, icons, monastery beeswax candles and gift items available for sale. Come and enjoy the festivities – and Christmas shop as well!

 

For larger quantity orders of baklava or any of specialty baked goods or ethnic foods desired for special events or entertainment during the holiday season, please place an order with us before our December 15th deadline. To do so, please call the Church Office and leave a message at 781-6114 or at 781-2388.

Festival Internacional Anual en la Iglesia Ortodoxa de San Jorge

La Iglesia Ortodoxa de San Jorge, le invita cordialmente a nuestro próximo Festival Internacional Anual, que se llevará a cabo, el 12 de diciembre de 2009 de las 09:00 AM hasta las 16:00, en la Parroquia, localizado en el 704 W. de la calle Sam Houston

en Pharr, Texas. El Festival Internacional, estará abierta de nueva cuenta el domingo 13 desde el medio día y hasta las 14:00, para continuar con la venta de platillos y artículos únicamente.


Ven y disfruta de los sabores, la hospitalidad y la alegría de la Europa del Este, del Mediterráneo y de Latinoamérica. La fiesta en San Jorge, es famosa por la diversidad de platillos internacionales, comida rusa, el Souvlaki griego, así como otras carnes a la parrilla, café griego, te de rusia y otras especialidades de nuestra “Tiendita Rusa”.


El “Dona una Lata y Recibe una Galleta” (Give a Can; Get a Cookie), de nueva cuenta nos permitirá colectar alimentos enlatados y contribuciones para la Despensa de Alimentos de San Jorge, para ayudar a quienes lo necesitan y atender a muchas familias en los vecindarios de Pharr cercanos a nuestra iglesia. Este año, también estaremos colectando cobijas y cobertores, nuevos o poco usados para distribuirlos a quien lo necesite durante la temporada de Navidad Durante el día, el coro de la iglesia, cantará villancicos navideños de la Europa oriental y habrá actividades y cuentos navideños para los niños. Así mismo tendremos recorridos por nuestra parroquia y ofreceremos pláticas sobre la fe Ortodoxa para aquellas personas interesadas en el tema.


Este evento será una buena oportunidad de compartir con nuestros vecinos, amigos e invitados de la iglesia de San Jorge. Estaremos vendiendo Baklava y platillos internacionales y comidas étnicas. Nuestra Parroquia también tendrá a la venta nuestro maravilloso Jabón de San Jorge, elaborado con aceite de oliva y también tendremos
artesanías de Ucrania, Rusia, Grecia y Polonia. La librería y tienda de regalos de san Jorge, también estará abierta, ofreciendo tarjetas de navidad, iconos, velas y muchos artículos más. ¡Ven y comparte las fiestas con nosotros y aprovecha para hacer tus compras de Navidad! Si deseas hacer órdenes grandes de baklava o cualquier otro platillo
